Borneo Architecture Festival 2024

In conjunction with World Architecture Day, PAM Sabah Chapter curated the Borneo Architecture Festival (BAF) to unite architects, designers, educators, policymakers, builders and industry leaders of similar visions, forging powerful connections, sharing insights, fostering collaboration, wielding influence at BAF annual networking event. The event was held on 11 and 12 Oct 2024 at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Sabah.

The theme ‘The Power of Place’ is chosen for this year’s Borneo Architecture Festival, where architecture reflects the heart of our communities. Being conscious about built environments, we continue to recognise the significance of health-conscious design, explore
the impacts of architecture on people’s everyday lives, and emphasise the importance of creating environments that promote wellness.

BUILDING A SENSE OF BELONGING

Guest speakers gathered here to share their works, ideas and interventions in addressing public concerns and contributing to mental well-being, place making goes beyond aesthetics. Speakers included: Chua Chinn Harn (Ministry of Local Government and Housing Sabah), Rene Fu (Malaysia Institute of Planners), Pamela Tan (Poh Sin Studio, Malaysia), Yossapon Boonsom (Shma Company Limited, Thailand), Hee-Jun Sim (ArchiWorkshop, South Korea), Takazi Okuda (Associated Architects & Planners, Japan), Wong Zi Xin (Park + Associates, Singapore) and Pietro Peyron (Kokaistudios, China).

BAF 2024 was co-organised with the Minister of Ministry of Local Government and Housing and launched by our esteemed Guest of Honour YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam, JP Deputy Chief Minister II of Sabah cum Minister of Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
