CONVENER’S MESSAGE

As an architecture undergraduate, I was deeply inspired by the PAM Awards. To students then, the Awards represented the highest benchmark of architectural excellence, something that felt distant yet deeply aspirational. Quietly, I told myself that perhaps one day, I might win one too. Years later, after working overseas, I had almost forgotten about that youthful ambition. Yet someone dear reminded me of that old wish list: to win just one PAM Award before retiring. Today, serving as Convener for the PAM Awards 2026 feels like a quiet full-circle moment.

This personal journey reminds me that awards have the power to inspire future architects to strive harder, think deeper, and leave behind meaningful architecture.

This year’s entries reflect the remarkable breadth and maturity of Malaysian architecture today. From humble, restrained buildings to soaring skyscrapers that shape the city skyline, the diversity of works submitted demonstrates a profession rich in imagination, sensitivity, and conviction.

Many entries demonstrated exceptional thought, craft, and sensitivity, making this year’s deliberations especially rigorous and rewarding. From projects that respond poetically to nature to buildings that elevate ordinary spaces through thoughtful design, the works reflect a profession grounded in imagination, ambition, and care for people, place, and environment.

I applaud the silent hard work behind every winning project, where countless hours were spent refining details, resolving on-site challenges, and striving to get things right. Every PAM Award signifies genuine quality, carefully evaluated by an exceptional jury lineup comprising distinguished luminaries from both local and international architectural voices.

Over the years, the PAM Awards have emerged as one of the most prestigious recognitions within the architectural profession. It is not an award that can be bought with money or influence, but one earned through quality of design, integrity of ideas, and meaningful impact on society and the environment.

The PAM Awards exist to elevate the standards of the profession. It reminds us that architecture carries responsibility to culture, climate, community, and future generations. If the PAM Awards can encourage even one young architecture student today, as they once inspired me many years ago, then the Awards serve a purpose far greater than the trophies themselves.

May the PAM Awards 2026 continue to motivate architects to design with purpose, build with responsibility, and contribute meaningfully to our nation’s legacy.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

“Malaysia’s architecture blends heritage and innovation, shaping resilient identities that inspire communities and define tomorrow.”

The PAM Awards 2026 once again mark a defining moment for the architectural profession in Malaysia, an occasion that honours not only excellence in design but also the collective spirit, dedication, and vision of Malaysian architects. As one of the most prestigious recognitions within our industry, the PAM Awards continues to set a benchmark for quality, innovation, and integrity. Each submission this year reflects an inspiring level of thoughtfulness and commitment, demonstrating the depth of talent within our architectural community.

More significantly, the Awards reflect Malaysia’s evolving architectural identity. Our built works today express a rich, layered narrative, shaped by cultural diversity, environmental responsiveness, and a progressive design ethos. Malaysian architecture is increasingly gaining recognition at regional and international levels, not by imitation, but through authenticity. It is this balance between contextual sensitivity and forward-thinking innovation that defines our voice on the global stage.

Malaysian architects have also proven that we possess the capability and professionalism to operate to international standards. Our contributions extend beyond national boundaries, engaging in global conversations and delivering projects that reflect both quality and responsibility. This growing presence underscores the strength of our profession, rooted in strong values, rigorous training, and a shared ambition to excel.

At the same time, we must recognise the broader impact of our work. Architecture plays a critical role in shaping the building industry and enhancing the built environment. It is a discipline that thrives on collaboration, technological advancement, and sustainable thinking. As we move forward, it is essential that we embrace diverse ideas and approaches while ensuring our practices remain ethical, resilient, and forward-looking. Above all, we must remain grounded in architecture’s true purpose.

“Architecture is about helping people, crafting environments that nurture life, inspire connection, and elevate the human experience with purpose and integrity.” Architecture is ultimately about shaping lives, uplifting communities, and creating spaces where humanity can thrive. As architects, we carry a responsibility that goes beyond design. Every line we draw must respond to human needs, dignity, and hope. We are called to design beyond form to create meaning, belonging, and resilience. By embracing innovation while honouring context and leading with integrity, our work becomes not only visible but deeply felt, transforming lives and inspiring future generations.

I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to all PAM Awards 2026 juries for their dedication, professionalism, and rigorous deliberation in upholding the highest standards of excellence. My heartfelt thanks also go to the Technical Reviewers team for their invaluable expertise and thorough assessments, which ensure the quality and integrity of the submissions. I further extend my gratitude to the Convenors, the PAM Awards Committee members, and the PAM Secretariat team for their tireless efforts, commitment, and meticulous organisation in making this Awards programme a success.

To all PAM Awards 2026 recipients, congratulations on your outstanding achievements. Your work exemplifies the highest standards of our profession. To all participants, thank you for your contributions and continued belief in the importance of these Awards. As we look ahead, let us continue to move forward together towards new horizons, with a shared commitment to excellence, healthy practice, and a better built environment for all.

“Architecture serves humanity, shaping meaningful spaces that inspire, connect, uplift lives, and define a better future.”

May God bless us all. Thank you.
