The early rays of sunlight shine through the sleepy clouds as the morning breeze refreshes the mood of oncoming visitors and staff, eager to begin their respective businesses as they make their way into Teladan’s new corporate office. Right on time, warm hues flicker on, illuminating the glossy tiles as well as the sweet smiles of the receptionists with a landscaped backdrop, all greeting in unison the prospective buyers on a promising mission to Wisma Teladan.
Teladan is a publicly listed property developer who approached us wanting a new, unique concept for their flagship corporate office. They envisioned a new building whereby not only would their staff find happy to work in, but also for their property buyers to be convinced to place their hard-earned life savings in the wide array of homes they had to offer. Teladan also expressed their wishes to incorporate green architecture for their office, with it becoming a popular trend within the architecture world in this day and age. Their new office could thus stand out within the small community of Melaka with its striking look. With these ambitions in mind, it gave birth to a visionary idea, and Wisma Teladan was created.
Seated at the corner of a major road junction, Wisma Teladan is also flanked by a nearby busy flyover bridge as well as Sungai Melaka by its rear. From the outside, Wisma Teladan strongly embraces the popular minimalist look, its façade lined with many strips of differing thickness as part of its window design, planned to avoid being monotonous. Visitors are greeted with a luscious landscape serving as a backdrop upon entry to Wisma Teladan. Within the landscape, a well-ventilated and cooling central courtyard facing the river invites visitors to be one with nature whilst within the office grounds.
Wide panel glasses formed the walls of the spacious lobby that hosted guests, letting in natural sunlight as well as creating the illusion for the main lobby to appear larger than it seemed, allowing visitors to enjoy the vast space without the intimidation of endless solid concrete walls. The glass wall of the lobby could also double as a showroom of sorts, allowing passersby to have first-hand glimpses of new properties on sale by the developer with strategically placed displays and showcases.
Adhering to the principle of “less is more”, Wisma Teladan undertook the bold decision to relinquish valuable office space on the upper two floors to cultivate another mini haven, the SkyGarden, further playing into the office’s green environment as well as its overall uniqueness that is rarely replicated by other office buildings. The incorporation of this open-air garden, aptly named SkyGarden at its 4th level, allows airflow to pass through the structure right into the courtyard below a sense of tranquillity that immediately improves one’s mind. This was prudently noted to improve occupants’ experience in the building with regulated fresh airflow, thus removing “stale” air and accumulated heat, a common problem with its humid locality.
During nighttime, Wisma Teladan also serves as a “lighthouse” within the dark neighbourhoods of the industrial area it is located, shining like a prominent star and pleasing the public’s eyes as tired workers make their way home.
