A QUINTET FAMILY
The project is a two-storey semi-detached house located in Rawang. The building is erected on a plot of 268 sqm and will host a humble family with three children.
The client envisions their home as a sanctuary where elegance coalesces with comfort and family ties. This design seeks to enhance their family bond by offering spaces for shared experiences while striking a balance for spaces that allow individual pursuits and expression. The design needs to revolve around the notion of home as a safe place, a space where the family can unwind, connect, and revel in each other’s company, and cocooned within the tranquil confines of their dwelling.
The project aspires to transform a house into a haven of dreamy elegance while prioritising family togetherness and well-being. Therefore, the project design goals are set as follows:
- To create an interior ambience that embodies both subtle lavishness and dreamy elegance within the confine of the comfort of home
- To configure the interior layout to foster family-centric living, enabling a seamless transition between living spaces
- To evoke a serene atmosphere of living within the home
CELEBRATE TOGETHERNESS
The design has orchestrated a reconfiguration of the existing spatial layout. With a family-centric living approach in mind, the original arrangement has been thoughtfully transformed. The initial rear wall, which once bordered the kitchen has undergone alteration.
CONNECTING INSIDE OUT
The result is an unbroken expanse that seamlessly connects the primary ground floor family living area from the foyer through the living, dining, and into the dry kitchen. The design celebrates family togetherness via visual connection to induce a sense of belonging. No walls just openness that encourages bonds to flourish.
PASSIVE DESIGN
Spaces are adjacent to full-height side openings, bathing the family in natural light as if nature reaches out to embrace them gently, casting delicate shadows that enhance the cosiness of the room for the family. The opening allows natural daylight to illuminate the home with an adequate level of visual lighting. Natural breeze allowed to fuse into the interior brings in the gentle caress of nature, soothing the thermal comfort for the users.
FLEXIBILITY AND ADAPTABILITY
The family hall cleverly integrates with a study area via a sliding door, allowing adaptable spatial usage. The door acts as a divider and a connector, facilitating the free flow of activities between the two zones and fostering seamless interaction between family hall and study. The wall and cabinet’s playful wave profile catches the eye of the user, turning the room into a canvas of movement. The feature wall rhythm draws the family in, adding depth to the space. Together, these elements create a place where seamless interaction and dynamic visuals become the everyday intimate nook for the family.

CANVAS OF MESMERISING DREAM
A refined selection of colours has been strategically deployed to craft a dreamy ambience throughout the home. Soft pastel shades form the backdrop, cultivating an atmosphere of serenity. Intermittent metallic accents interweave luxury into this ethereal canvas. This fusion elegantly caters to the parents’ sophisticated taste while simultaneously stimulating the imaginative sensibilities of the children achieving a harmonious balance.
Adding depth and tactile diversity, wave panels grace cabinet fronts and feature walls, introducing a captivating play of profiles and visual richness. The profile rhythm adds visual depth, forming a canvas of movement that sparks curiosity and imagination among the users.
MORE THAN STAIRS
The entire staircase is redesigned better to elaborate the narrative of a dreamy sense of luxury. The initial open staircase was redesigned entirely into an enclosed passageway. The more confined scale of the stairs evokes a stronger sense of intimacy among the users passing through. The linkage acts as a transition space between the more public family space on the ground floor and the more intimate area of the residence.
The design intention is to create a sense of journey through a dreamy tunnel filled with suspense and curiosity while transversing between floors. The staircase is enveloped with a warm wood finish, spanning seamlessly from the dining to the staircase and the family room on the first floor. It creates a visual continuity, drawing the user up step by step.
EMBRACING THE WARMTH
White marble with a streak of gold is selected as the staircase steps finish. The marble reflects the surrounding light, enhancing a sense of dreaminess. When the family ascends the staircase, the installed lighting mimics a guiding light, lighting up step by step through a motion sensor, bathing the path in a soothing, ambient glow. interplay of shadows and highlights enhances the staircase experience, inviting users to explore each step with anticipation.
The dance of light along the steps and railing adds a captivating allure, and a sense of dreaminess and whimsicalness, turning this simple passage into an immersive experience that is both practical and inviting. The railing of the stairs is artfully crafted to be integrated with the enveloping stairs panel, where the finishes also wrap seamlessly with the railing handle. Additional brass inlay is laid upon the edge of each step, acting as a nosing indication where the user can physically feel the edge of the stairs to increase its safety.
SENSE OF BELONGING
The private bedroom of the family is designed to reflect their personalities, yet adhering to the same soft pastel colour scheme and nature-inspired material to imbue an inviting warmth, engaging the family with nature’s embrace.
Each bedroom is injected with hints and design gestures to reflect the user’s personality. The master bedroom for the parents intertwines soft pastel tones with delicate metallic accents that imbue the room with a dreamy sense of opulence.
The son’s bedroom has a blend of two contrasting natural wood finishes. The warm-toned scheme reflects the outgoing personality while amplifying the room’s cosiness. Crafting the narrative of the son waking up in this nature-inspired haven. Whereas the daughter attempts to create a sensation of resting amidst the cloud with the delicate use of white and soft blue tones with the interplay of graceful lines to further romanticise the space.
CONCLUSION
In short, the project’s goal of realising the client’s vision of home has been expertly brought to life through a meticulous reconfiguration of spatial layout. The design is a statement of celebration of togetherness echoing through every corner, as the designed spaces act as a silent cradle that fosters the bond of the family.
